Técnico Superior Profissional em Eletrónica e Automação Naval (CTESP-EAN)

The professional technical course in Electronics and Naval Automation (CTESP-EAN) aims to prepare a specialist technician who, independently or as part of a team, can assume specific functions in the electronic and automation field, use and repair the different equipment of various generations and introduce the necessary modifications to the equipment in order to improve its performance and reliability. It is considered as the main field of professional activity, merchant, fishing and leisure ships, port terminals, shipbuilding and shipbuilding yards, offshore platforms, as well as the industrial sector and services in related areas.

CTESP-EAN graduates are also prepared to continue their studies in higher education, particularly in ENIDH's degree courses in Engineering, in which they can obtain credits in the scientific areas of the courses.

Learning outcome:

It is intended that the student who finishes the Professional Technician course in Electronics and Naval Automation holds the following competences:

Basci knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge of processes and techniques of communication, supervision and coordination, group dynamics and conflict management;
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics;
  • Fundamental knowledge of maritime technology and safety;
  • Basic knowledge of maritime technical English;
  • Basic knowledge of machines and electrical installations;
  • Basic knowledge of analog electronics and power;
  • Basic knowledge of digital systems and microprocessors;
  • Basic knowledge of naval automation;
  • Basic knowledge of programmable controllers;
  • Basic knowledge of systems maintenance and repair techniques electronic, command and control.

Technical knowledge:

  • Use simulation, test and measurement instruments;
  • Draw and interpret electrical schematics;
  • Detect faults and perform the appropriate repairs;
  • Develop projects in a structured way;
  • Analyze, develop and repair systems that combine analog, digital, microprocessors and programmable controllers;
  • Interpret and apply equipment repair information;
  • Establish programs and plans for the maintenance of electrical, electronic, command and control.

All companies in the maritime, port and industrial sectors in need of professionals with the following competences:

  • Maintain and repair the electrical and electronic equipment or improve their efficiency and reliability (on-board electrician);
  • To perform the maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment (maritime platforms, prospecting and extraction of oil and gas - mobile offshore units);
  • Install, configure and maintain electrical, electronic and naval and industrial automation;
  • Technically assist electrical, electronic and control systems maritime and port authorities, intervening in case of anomalies or breakdowns;
  • Set up, configure and maintain other automatic systems;
  • Program the equipment according to the technical specifications;
  • Testing of monitoring, command and control programs;
  • Use simulation, test and measurement instruments;
  • Develop technical relationships with equipment suppliers, analyze the the needs of adapting technologies to the specificities of the company/ ship/ terminal;
  • Analyze equipment needs and arrange for their acquisition;
  • Establish programs and plans for the maintenance of electronic equipment and command of maritime and port facilities;

The Higher Education Nautical School Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH) is a polytechnic public higher education institution with statutory, scientific, pedagogical, administrative, financial, patrimonial and disciplinary autonomy. ENIDH is the only Portuguese national school dedicated to the formation of Officers of the Merchant Navy and senior managers of the Maritime-Port sector in the areas of Intermodality, Management and Logistics. It is the responsibility of the School to provide a solid cultural, scientific and technical training, to develop the capacity for innovation and critical analysis and to provide scientific knowledge in a theoretical and practical nature directed to the performance of activities characteristic of the Maritime-Port sector.



a) Holders of a course of secondary education or legally equivalent qualification;

b) Those which have been approved in the particularly appropriate tests to assess the capacity for higher education attendance of those over 23 years old, for the course, under the terms of Decree-Law no. 64/2006, of 21 March.

c) Students who, having obtained approval in all disciplines of the 10th and 11th years of a secondary education course, or a legally equivalent qualification, and not having completed secondary education, are considered eligible through 1 capacity to be carried out by ENIDH.

d) Holders of a diploma of technological specialization, of a diploma of technician professional or higher education degree who wish professional re-qualification.

Application Procedure:

The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Application form duly completed;
  • Copy of citizen card / identity card and taxpayer card;
  • Certificate of academic qualification discriminated;
  • Certificate proving the approval of the specially appropriate tests to assess the ability to attend higher education of those over 23 years of age, when applicable.
