The Refreshment course on Qualification for the Conduction of Rescue Vessels (except quick vessels), complies with the the European Parliament directive on the minimum level of training of seafarers and Regulation VI / 2 of the IMO Convention on Standards of Training and Certification to work in leisure ships. 

The successful conclusion of the Refreshment Course in the Conduction of Rescue Vessels confers the right to apply to the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services (DGRM), the renewal of the Certificate of Qualification for the Driving of Life-Saver Vessels and Rescue.

  • To train the students with the necessary skills to renew the Certificate ofQualification for the Driving of Lifeboats and Salvage;
  • Stimulate, consolidate and deepen the theoretical-practical skills and knowledge necessary for the safety on board ships.

AEMAR - Association for Studies and Teaching for the Sea, is a non-profit association, created by the most representative elements of the nautical and maritime sector, both in Employers' Entities and in the Union Associations. AEMAR is the owner of ITN - Institute of Nautical Technologies and intends to strengthen mechanisms to support the insertion of young people in active life. AEMAR / ITN was created in 1991 (program contract, homologated on July 8, 1991), being the only National Professional School in the Maritime Transport sector, maintenance of commercial ships and recreational boating. In order to respond to the needs of modernization of the economic and social agents of the sector as well as other institutions regulating professional activity and, currently counting on the collaboration of the main companies in the national market, it intends to provide young people with training courses in order to insure competitiveness in the area of ​​maritime transport. The increasing technological sophistication of ships, the progressive globalization of markets, growing concerns about the safety of human life and the ecological protection of the marine environment require the continuous specialization of professionals in this area. Our philosophy is to train qualified technicians who contribute to a greater efficiency and competitiveness that face the increasing complexity of the activity of the maritime transport sector. Equipped with the human and material resources capable of ensuring quality vocational training, in close coordination with the business world, ITN has the pedagogical conditions to offer youngsters with a vocation for maritime activities the preferential entry into companies in the sector and the possibility thereof of career progression.


Application Procedure:

To enroll in the course the candidates must present the following documentation:

  • A passport photograph;
  • Application form;
  • Certificate of Physical Aptitude issued in accordance with the provisions of article 17 of Decree-Law no. 280/2001 of October 23, or a statement of physical robustness issued by an authorized physician;
  • Copy of Certificate of Driving of Lifeboats and Salvage;
  • Copy of the Basic Security Certificate;
  • Copy of the Taxpayer Card;
  • Copy of the Citizen's Card or Copy of the Passport (for non-nationals only).
