EMBRC+ Core facility combines services from 5 research groups spread over 2 faculties at Ghent University: 

  1. Marine Biology Research Group (MarBiol) + Marine Training Unit: Faculty of Sciences
  2. Phycology Research Group: Faculty of Sciences
  3. Protistology and Aquatic Ecology (PAE): Faculty of Sciences
  4. Laboratory of Aquaculture & Artemia Reference Center (ARC): Faculty of Bioscience engineering
  5. Blue Growth Research Lab (BGRL): Faculty of Bioscience engineering

The EMBRC+ Core facility currently offers 19 services divided into four service categories:

  1. Biological resources: The EMBRC+ core facility offers access to culture collections (nematodes, macroalgae) and offers the possibility to sample organisms directly from the field (the southern bight of the North Sea and Western Scheldt Estuary).
  2. Experimental facilities: The EMBRC+ core facility provides access to state-of-the-art experimental facilities for environmental studies and for commercial applications. Dedicated wet and dry laboratories are available for sample processing and their analysis.
  3. Technology platforms: The EMBRC+ core facility gives access to the latest technologies for molecular biology and for bio-imaging, as well as platforms for structural and chemical analysis.
  4. Training services: EMBRC promotes training and upskilling of marine researchers and research infrastructures’ staff by facilitating access to marine-related training opportunities which are provided by the Marine Training Unit (MTU). In this core facility, MTU provides support in the design and delivery of training courses, with special focus on online and blended formats, to increase Lifelong Learning opportunities, using its dedicated e-learning platform. Furthermore, MTU provides an overview of marine and maritime related training opportunities through its Training Catalogue and has just launched an Internships Catalogue where internship providers (Academia, Industry, etc) can advertise internship opportunities, and people looking for internships in the marine and maritime sector can search internship opportunities.
